I was a junior in high school. I so desperately wanted to be popular. I gave up playing baritone (a smaller tuba) in the school band as an attempt to become popular. I changed schools after being bullied out of my first high school to be popular. I had a job so that I could buy things that made me think I would be more popular.

But alas… I was not popular at all.

However, I did manage to make a new friend. A gal pal, if you will.

Her name was Nicole.

Nicole was tall. Dark hair, dark eyes, tan skin. Looking back, I now realize just how beautiful she was.

Nicole had her eyes set on becoming a nurse once she graduated. She was a twin, and I believe they were both seniors at the time. Her voice was a little lower than a lot of the cliquey girls I knew, and she often chose comfort over glamour in her clothing choices.

Both Nicole and her twin were very athletic. I think they both played basketball throughout high school. Perhaps other sports too. We had a class together, and I think it may have been photography or some other extracurricular activity.
