Too fat to risk having a hysterectomy?
Yet, not too fat to risk having bariatric surgery?
Yeah, you read it correctly. I just left my pap smear. It’s been 3 to 4 years because, well, insurance in America is terrible, and so is most of the healthcare. However, I was determined because I wanted to put an end to my terrible menstrual cycles.
I will spare you the gore, but you know it’s bad when you are begging for the whole unit to be removed the moment you have decent enough insurance.
This is how the conversation between the doctor and I went when we were discussing my terrible periods and potential resolutions.
Dr. : Your weight is a problem. It’s pretty high risk to have surgery at your weight.
Me: Ok.
Dr. : Would you like more information or a referral for a dietitian or bariatric surgery?
Cue my neverending, autistic, internal monologue:
So wait.
It’s too much risk for me to move forward with a surgery I want.
But, there is not too much risk for me to have surgery that I don’t want, because on the off chance I don’t die, I can then have another major surgery that I do want a very long time after?
But, bonus i will be skinnier… maybe.
Me: No.
End scene.
What would you have said or done? If you can spare a few claps for my freshly biopsied cervix, that would be lovely.
Thanks!
