How we hire at Flipkart Design

As we grow the design and research team at Flipkart, it has become increasingly important to hire the right folks at the right levels who can be great partners to product & tech and take the business forward. It’s also important to constantly keep improving the hiring process as once a person is hired, it’s our responsibility to ensure they are succeeding at their roles and growing at Flipkart.

Below is a checklist of traits we look for beyond a good portfolio.

  1. Enthusiasm
    Is it just another job for the candidate or are they passionate about the opportunity?
  2. Openness to feedback
    How do they respond to constructive feedback? Are they constantly seeking inputs to improve their design?
  3. Adaptability
    Are they able to think of alternatives if there is a new constraint in the design brief or do they get stuck with their initial ideas?
  4. Communication
    When we work with peers from diverse backgrounds of tech, product and business, it becomes essential to be able to communicate our ideas and articulate our design choices.
  5. Culture Add
    Culture is constantly evolving with each new hire. Will the candidate help push and grow our culture forward? Do they bring anything unique to the team?
  6. Passion for Craft
    Are they winging it or are they constantly learning and trying to improve their craft?
  7. Potential for Growth
    Experience is important but does the candidate show high potential for growth. Do we see them growing to the next role smoothly?
  8. Bias for making
    Is it all talk or is the person willing to put pencil to paper, get stakeholders to rally behind them and make their vision a reality?
