The Philosophy behind DaS™
Welcome to another article from the DaS™ Method series that aims to define the philosophy behind the scaling design propositions. We’ll look at how some design delivery collapses under constant changes and how demined transparency at scale mitigates most issues by applying these five quite simple philosophies.
Compared to traditional design (stage and gate or agency model) delivery, Design at Scale #DaS™ targets complex systems and product development with dynamic, non-linear characteristics. We tend not to rely on accurate estimates, stable plans, and predictions to build confidence within the design team and individuals. Instead, we apply our values. [001↘︎]
Instead of building heavy up-front specifications, libraries and design style guides that waste our time, we embrace transparency and BDD [002↘︎], where the behaviour (set of outcomes) is based on a defined specification (set of outputs).
To reduce the need to take multiple leaps of faith in the form of road maps, which are often necessary for the early stages of any project, we obtain the evidence-based artefacts[003↘︎] that build value across three swimlanes — business, design, and development (Described as known knowns).
To reduce the assumptions and crystallise the proposition, we create the experience in tandem based on (well-documented and shared) learning…
