A designer that stakeholders love
Be a lot more concerned about how your designs fit into the overall company goals. You’re not just giving a good experience to customers. You’re contributing to the larger goal of the company. You shouldn’t just wait for a PM to bring you docs before you design anything. Be proactive. The goals of the company should give you an indication of what you can start ideating on.
— Get closer to decision making
Go through and understand what the company/team goals are for the quarter. These may involve reading documents, attending meetings, or just having conversations with key stakeholders. Break these insights down and note what parts you have some/a little influence over. These may include enhancing user engagement, conversion rates, user satisfaction, etc.
— Educate stakeholders (nicely)
They do not know everything. More so, they do not know what you were also thinking when you made certain design decisions. Help them understand how you arrived at those decisions and how they contribute to the overall goals of the company.
— Measure impact
Take a snapshot of the relevant data before the designs are implemented. After your designs have been built, track the data. Measure the impact that your work has made. You should be able to tell how much dropoff changed after your designs were implemented.
— Summary
In short, be proactive, communicate, stay close to decisions, and align with broader objectives. And also remember, You are a part of a team. Stay contributing
