A phrase that could kill your career!

You could be saying it out loud or even mumbling to yourself. Either ways it can hurt your prospects.

What’s the phrase I’m talking about?

It’s not my job.

You can struggle with it, get angsty about it & be a total grump. Or you can take a positive outlook and embrace it as an opportunity.

Now, be mindful I’m not saying you do this every time, but definitely consider this and do a quick pros and cons in your head.

Opportunity Knocks some times. What matters is that you’ve been selected either on purpose by karma, fate or by accident and can help a fellow human being. Even if its not your job to solve for something, getting people to the right solution/answer might not take a long time or derail your work.

How is it an opportunity?

Look at it this way. Maybe the actual task isn’t yours to do but it’s for you to help the one seeking an answer and build a connection or make an impact indirectly.

Why is it important:

  • Allows you to be viewed as a people & opportunity connector.
  • You never know who the requestor may be and may help your career further
  • Grow your understanding further of the organization
