As part of an Ironhack project, I received the task to allow Spotify users to watch Livestream shows directly on the app. The process took 4 days.

This feature sounds secondary to users

A short survey on the subject clearly showed that Spotify users consider this option to be secondary, or barely desired. That’s a fine insight in itself, thus I decided to integrate the feature while not disrupting the user’s habits and expectations.

Survey Results of regular Spotify users :

  • 72% watched a liveshow once, twice, or not at all in the past 2 years.
  • 45% said they would watch a livestream concert on the app.
  • 54% considered this feature to be secondary, the rest consider it less important than that.

Here’s Laura; a 32 years old recruiter from Lyon (France) who has been using Spotify for 6 years. She really misses going to concerts since the pandemic started, and has watched a few liveshows on Youtube but has generally been disappointed by the experience.

User Flow — Desired Path

After Sketching many different solutions and testing them, I found that users preferred the following flow :

Home : Tap Search // Search : Tap Search Bar // Results : Tap Artist Profile
Artist Profile : Tap on Liveshow

Prototyping the User Flow

Aaaaaaand there you go ! I hope you enjoyed the read. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you ! ;)
