AI is creating a boring suburb of ideas — how do we keep innovating?

Generative AI has the ability to generate vast amounts of ideas quickly and efficiently, but it often lacks the ability to create truly original ones. This is where creators must step in, bringing their human touch to the content produced by AI and elevating it to new levels.

Why humans are needed to differentiate innovation and create trustworthy knowledge

In a world where new ideas are constantly being generated, companies need to stand out in order to gain recognition and build trust. While AI-generated ideas can be efficient and cost-effective, AI often lacks the ability to create ones that are truly unique, unbiased, and specific to our domains. Everyone using ChatGPT shares the same knowledge base as well as its flaws, and will get very similar answers to similar questions. Companies require unique, context-specific innovation in order to earn the attention and trust of their audiences and communicate their company’s unique value proposition. We know that these AI models are designed to answer any question plausibly, but we now have numerous examples of AI manufacturing sources and facts to give an answer. Seeing the first defamation lawsuit being filed in Australia, as chatGPT invented facts, is a harbinger of things to come.

This is where creative professionals come in. They bring a human understanding and rigor to the suggestions produced by AI, allowing for truly unique and differentiated thinking. The insights, specificity, and experiences that creatives bring to the table are essential in developing a brand’s unique portfolio, or any type of breakthrough innovation.

The world is infinitely larger that the largest AI training models

One of the unique advantages that humans have over AI is their ability to make random connections between seemingly unrelated concepts. This ability is essential to the creative process, as it allows for the generation of truly original ideas. Creators are experts at making these connections, drawing on their unique experiences and perspectives to create products that are truly different.

By collaborating with AI, creators can unlock a new depth of creativity. AI can provide valuable insights and data that can help identify patterns and trends that may not have been otherwise noticeable. This collaboration between human creativity and AI can lead to innovation that is not only unique but also backed by data and empirical insights.

The problem of copyright infringement

Since AI models are trained on vast amounts of data from the web and shared resources, it can be difficult to ensure that what it generates is entirely original, or based on proprietary data. The US patent office itself has stated that they may or may not copyright AI-assisted work.

Knowledge workers can conduct thorough research, identify potential copyright issues, and work with AI and make sure that your efforts are unique and not infringing on any existing copyrights. By working with AI as a tool, creatives can also ensure that the content produced is not only original but truly aligned with our specific users’ needs, domain expertise, brand message, and company values.

Innovation with AI: augmenting, not (yet) replacing, human creativity

As the artist Pablo Picasso once said, “Computers are useless. They can only give you answers.” Well, maybe. But working with AI is not about replacing human creativity, but rather augmenting it. AI can be a valuable tool for generating content quickly and efficiently, but it’s the creative element that humans bring that makes innovation truly stand out.

The human touch infuses unique and innovative ideas into the mix, while AI provides the speed and efficiency needed to bring them to life. Together, we can create content that not only breaks the mold but captivates and inspires audiences. With AI as our ally, we can unleash our full creative potential and bring our wildest ideas to reality.
