The Research Approach

Timeline with 4 steps: immersion in practice, understanding practitioners, concept & prototype, evaluation; iteration loop.
The user-centred research and design approach for our AI tool for UI/UX designers.

The Concept and Prototype

Collage: hand with pen drawing UI on paper, taking photo of it with phone, Sketch UI showing photo and converted wireframe.
Turning a paper UI sketch into a digital wireframe with our concept and prototype: a) Sketching a UI on paper, b) taking a photo, c) loading it into the wireframing software Sketch, d) where our plugin automatically creates the corresponding wireframe, which can be freely modified.

The 5 Lessons Learned

Diagram showing five lessons learned as short text in a circle around a central text “Building AI tools for UI/UX designers”.
The five lessons learned in this case study.

1. Use AI as “glue” between process steps

2. Respect designers’ knowledge and tools

3. Support “thinking by doing”

4. Invest in process understanding before AI accuracy

5. Consider impact on consistency
