Caus study: (Bhaiya Adventures) sports activities App.
Hey everyone, hello Medium, I’m here again to share with you a case study that I’ve been working on for 3 weeks. With my fantastic team Reem, Lamia, Mohammed, and Anoud. This is my third project UX/UI course at Misk Academy, It is about creating a platform that helps local users find most of the information related to Abha’s sports activities.
About Abha
The city of Abha is the administrative headquarters and the capital of the Asir region in the southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its most important city, where the headquarters of the emirate and the main branches of the ministries are located. The city of Abha is considered one of the most important resorts and tourist cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, due to its moderate climate and great height above sea level.
Disk Research
In this phase, my team and I did not know anything about Abha so we started with research about it, we collected information about Abha and we were lucky because one of the students in another group lived there and she offered to help us if we need it : )
also, we started by asking experts and tour guides the main questions because We wanted to understand our users more, and here are some main questions:
1- What are the most popular sports in Abha?
2- What are the most popular places to visit for sports activities in Abha
3- In which season do people usually go to Abha
4- Are the activities family-friendly
5- What is the age range for visiting Abha
6- Is it required to do these activities as a group?
7- How do people usually go to Abha? (By car/ By plane/…)
User Research
Through desk research, we were able to formulate and write screener and interview questions. To learn more about our target users and their sports activities specifically and travel experiences in general
Here we were able to interview 28 users from the above 70 participants.
and our main goals for these interviews were:
1- Knowing what pain points/ struggles when looking for sports activity while traveling
2- what places do they consider in Abha
3- what interests them in Abha
4- what they know about Abha
5- behavior/attitudes of the user toward adventure tourism
6- who the competitors
7- whether to develop an app or website ( to ask how they plan their trips )
8- needs of the user
9- to identify the persona of the user
10- What do they like to do other than sports (history/sites/shopping/food) OR What they like to do before/after activities (history/sites/shopping/food)
Affinity Mapping:
Business analysis
In this phase, to have a good understanding of the business, we need to learn more about our competitors and did an analysis of them. We begin with C&C analysis and then Heuristic evaluation.
Competitors:
C&C Analysis
and these are the recommendations that we came up with:
- Provide enough info about the activity (the place, age, fees, what to bring, etc)
-Provide a visual map
-Add multiple images of the place from different angles
-Suggest nearby activities
-A full explanation of sports activities.
LEMEr’S Heuristic evaluation.
We applied the LEMErS heuristic evaluation to our competitors. and we end up with this result:
- Provide a map feature with filtering for different sports activities.
-Provide a clear and readable card layout
-Provide a clear review section that serves the need of the user
-Provide a more simple and faster way to find the place (mini search bar)
-Incorporate icons with the categories.
-Provide good organization of content
-Provide sufficient information about tour guides
-Provide clear icons and buttons
-Provide sufficient rating and filtering systems
-Provide a safety section for activities
-Provide a clear way of showing the difficulty levels
Positioning Marketing:
Persona
Based on user research we gathered enough insights about our users and we created our persona, Rashid!!!
Rashid’s problem
Active adults have a problem that they fear for their safety and face difficulties finding accurate information in one place when wanting to do sports activities in Abha. Our solution will act as a guide to help users make informed decisions and reassure their safety whiles performing the activities
The solution is:
and here we decided to create an App because:
- The Internet is good according to our user research and experts.
- Users use smartwatches/phones during the activity for:
- tracking steps
- track heart rate
-calculates distance, time, and calories.
- Users can get notifications when a booking slot becomes free, changes in weather and a landmark is near.
How does Rashid Reach our solution?
The storyboard of Rashid finds our solution
User journey
In Rashid's journey map, we are able to represent his goals, actions, emotions, opportunities, and pinpoints when he travels to Abha to do adventure sports activities.
Design Phase
User flow
we started this phase with user flow and also create a task flow that describes the task of booking a guide.
Sitemap
Here we need to know the structure of our App depending on user needs, so we did the sitemap.
Design system
We created a design system so that we could achieve consistency in our design.
Annotated wireframes:
After we accomplished the mid-fidelity wireframes we added an annotation to make them more understandable.
Prototype Testing:
After we were done with the MedFi, We tested with 5 users by giving them specific tasks to do it
Tasks
we asked the participants to complete tasks like:
Task 1: Log in as a guest and fill out the survey
Task 2: pick the hiking activity and choose Alsouda
task 3: Read all the safety, preparation info, and reviews
task 4: add the activity to plan
task 5: book a guide
task 6: book a tour guide
task7: return back to the homepage
After we complete our test we did some changes, like:
Final Prototype:
Next Steps:
For our next steps we want to:
- Tour guides interface
- Tackle different primary and secondary personas
- Gamification for encouraging doing events
- Arabic interface
- Purchase clothing and equipment directly from the app
- Allow tour guides to customize prices based on each customer
And that’s it!
We reach the end of our project, I hope that you enjoyed it, and thank you.
