Problem Statement

“As a person who supports sustainable consumption, I want to increase the efficiency of recycling/donating my goods and clothes when they are not needed anymore.”

Observations

Sustainable consumption means the use of services and related products that meet basic needs and improve quality of life while reducing the use of natural resources, toxic materials, waste production, and pollution emissions over the service or product’s life cycle to protect the needs of future generations.

The issue statement for improving the effectiveness of recycling or donating goods when they are no longer required is the focus of my observation. I was curious about how people behaved regarding recycling their trash or donating their products, caring for the environment, and participating in campaigns to protect it.

Needs

  • People need a simple way to monitor how their good actions affect the world.
  • A platform where they can donate or recycle their goods.
  • A person requires a group of people with whom they can collaborate together and make changes.

Brainstorming

Past surveys show that sustainable consumption wasn’t well adopted across larger audiences. Though, recent surveys of people’s environmental awareness have shown a rise in “eco-friendly” behaviour.

Why a mobile application?
1. A mobile app is more handy when it comes to creating content for product listings.
2. When compared to a web application, mobile applications are more accessible across a wide range of demographics.
3. It is easy to keep people updated via push notifications.

Why would users download this mobile app?
This app should have distinctive and appealing features that set it apart from other platforms. So I came up with a couple of different concepts.

E-commerce platform🛍

Buying and selling various reusable items to other people for a small or no cost.

Meetup platform 👥

One can organise a meetup where anyone who is interested is welcome to attend and display their things and clothing for recycling or donation. Individuals can form communities to support the cause.

Reward policy💰

As they donate or recycle, consumers accrue points that they may use to purchase gift cards or coupons at various businesses and retailers. Each week, the leaderboard is revealed based on accumulated points. It can be shared via social media sites.
One can donate their points to various NGOs or foundations that encourage sustainability.

Donating to major companies that promote sustainability💛

Sustainability is supported by well-known brands like Levis, H&M, etc. To receive acknowledgement or some sort of reward, one might give these businesses a certain quantity and type of goods, items, or clothing for recycling.

Target Audience

According to the problem statement and research work, the target audience should consist of those who are committed to protecting the environment and who are eager to change things. People who are comfortable donating or recycling their used goods, support and believe in sustainable consumption.

There are two sorts of users of this platform, to reiterate:
1. People that are truly willing to donate their goods or recycle them.
2. People who give away their goods for recycling or donation in order to receive rewards.
