Hero illustration but make it responsive

How I designed a modular illustration that adapts to different devices.

In digital design, we are used to making layouts and typography adapt to different screen sizes, but what about illustrations? While they are often treated as static assets, they can also be designed to flex and adapt, just like the rest of a website.

This case study explores how I approached a responsive illustration for a children’s drawing contest, ensuring it worked seamlessly across devices without losing its charm.

The project

A Christmas-themed children’s drawing contest needed a hero illustration for its landing page. In previous years, the contest used image-based illustrations that weren’t adaptable across devices, which limited their impact on mobile users. This year, the goal was to create a modular, responsive illustration that could seamlessly adapt to any screen size.

The contest is promoted as an activity for children during their stay at the hotel.
