Back in June, Apple introduced their Vision Pro headset (or spatial computer, as they call it) which they expect to launch early 2024. Since then, I’ve seen a heck of a lot of glass-morphism tutorials and aesthetic mockups of shiny browser windows overlaid on modern living rooms.

Digging a little deeper, I came across resources outlining guidelines for designing and developing for this spatial computer.

Let’s pump the breaks.

At this point I started wondering: Is this something really worth learning and putting energy into? Is this new device, format, and experience ~the future~ or a passing trend (like Google Glass)? And most importantly, where (if at all) does it actually have the power to add real value?

I still have not come to any concrete conclusions, but I wanted to share what I’ve learned so far. Because I’ll be honest, my gut reaction to the Vision Pro introduction was, “This is dumb.” And I don’t think I’m the only one, because the comments on this video by Apple have been turned off. 😂

Let me start by saying that I understand this is the very beginning of what they’re calling ‘spatial computing.’…
