Sustainable UX is the Future — Are You Falling Behind?
Designing for the People and Planet
As a designer I deeply committed to creating meaningful digital experiences. It’s not just about crafting intuitive interfaces or eye-catching visuals; it’s about understanding the broader impact of our designs on both users and the planet.
Impact of Our Digital Creations
Have you ever paused to consider the environmental cost of a simple online search or streaming a favorite song? Each digital interaction demands energy — servers humming tirelessly, networks transmitting data, and devices rendering content. While a single action might seem negligible, the collective impact is substantial, contributing to a growing carbon footprint.
How our Design choices contribute
In my journey, I’ve identified several areas where design decisions can inadvertently exacerbate environmental strain:
Heavy media and Large files — Incorporating high-resolution images and videos can enhance aesthetics but may also slow down websites and increase energy consumption.
Auto-Playing Media — Implementing auto-playing videos or animations can consume significant bandwidth and energy, especially if users do not engage with them.
