Meetings are way more expensive than their pure length or even the combined length of people participating in a meeting.

Many teams could benefit greatly from reducing their overall time spend on various meetings.

Let’s take a look at the true cost of meetings and then I’ll share a few tactics that helped me reduce the meetings time in my previous time by half.

The true cost of meetings

The most naive way to look at meetings is in terms of a meeting length. It’s just an hour. It’s not such a big deal.

However, if you have eight people participate in a meeting, it’s actually eight hours, not one. It’s one workday of productivity taken out of the schedule. It’s a lot.

But it’s even even worse. People often need to prepare for the meeting and recharge after it. Doing anything productive is hard when a meeting is scheduled in six minutes. The best you can do is to grab a cup of coffee. Now it’s one and a half of a workday cut out.

The cost doesn’t stop here, though.
