The I’s of Creation

Intuition, Intention, and Integration. These are the 3 I’s I trust. I’d like to think that they hold the key to creation. Let me try and explain why.

It all stems from the subconscious. It is a concerning part of the mind which is latent in nature. We are not fully aware of its function, but it influences one’s actions and feelings. The subconscious is where all the information that we tend to look past in our daily life, is stored. It’s always calculating, giving us insights, connecting dots that we cannot actively perceive. All of this, in tandem with our conscious self.

Intuition, a gut feeling, hunch, a sixth sense. Whatever you may name it. A feeling that presents itself whenever our subconscious is reaching out to us. An ability to understand something instinctively. Ever-present, ever-working, always sending us signals from above a conscious capacity. Intuition is the purest connection we have with our subconscious.

Without knowing, we leave most of our decisions to our intuition. But we do not embrace it fully or give credit to it. Some of us are scared by it, as its understanding is often put in opposition to rationality. However, I believe intuition is the space between the rational and the irrational. It is a gift that takes you away from mental chatter. A powerful one as it stems from observation.

Intuition reaches out to hidden and unexplored dimensions and reveals spontaneous creativity which is beyond conventional. Not to reinvent the wheel. Left to itself, a totally intuitive act can lack definition and form. That’s why the other two I’s make the cut.

Intention shapes a thought into a more concrete expression, which can be readily grasped by those who are engaging in the process of creation. Our intention strengthens the intuitive self by employing sense-making techniques to prioritize, judge, and forge real-life connections.

The practical and the mystical, the intention and the intuition are designed to work together to create something beyond their individual capacity.

“Truly successful decision-making relies on a balance between deliberate and instinctive thinking.” — Malcolm Gladwell (2007)

Are my choices a result of my experiences, or could the act of experiencing life be a culmination of the choices I make? Or is there some dark matter holding it all together — which provides nuances that would otherwise be lost?

We’ll never know. We do realize though, that we are nothing but the aggregate of our experiences. The decisions we make. The situations we are put through. The interactions we have with the world. There is nothing “inconsequential”. All that we know, hear, and see presents its relevance in its own course.

Integration of all this defines us in this world we created. The progressive accumulation of our thoughts, experiences, and actions gives us a sense of “self”. And this is what we use to create. After all, isn’t what we are — what we think, what we know, and what we do?
