As the new year begins, countless trends will be set to surface, touching every aspect of life. For us, in the Android development world, it’s not different.

This is an introductory post about a series of posts where we’ll talk about mobile app design tendencies for 2024. From user interface innovations to UI/UX best practices that are not new, but remain crucial these days.

WHY?

The answer is user retention.

First, we have to understand why is it so relevant to talk about the user experience in the current days?

Users continually evolve in their preferences and expectations. Keeping up with trends ensures that your app aligns with the current user experience standards, meeting or exceeding user expectations. In a dynamic app market, staying current provides a competitive advantage. Apps with modern and intuitive interfaces are more likely to attract and retain users compared to those with outdated designs.

After all, it is all about [the bass] the users.

70% of online shoppers abandon their carts because of poor user experience. (Outbound Sales)

Only 1 out of 26 customers complain when they are unsatisfied, the rest churn without saying anything. The absence of negative feedback isn’t a sign of satisfaction. 91% of unsatisfied customers who don’t complain simply leave. (Esteban Kolsky)

32% of the customers would leave a brand they loved after just one bad experience. (PWC)

The good news is that, according to the forrester.com, every $1 invested in UX results in a return of $100 which means a return of investment (ROI) of 9,900%.

In the next few posts we'll talk more deeply about the following topics:

1. Gesture-Based Navigation

Enhance user interaction by incorporating gesture-based navigation. Simplify the user experience with intuitive gestures, making app navigation smoother and more engaging.

2. Dark Mode Implementation

3. Microinteractions on Android

Detailing the power of microinteractions, this section guides you on creating subtle yet impactful moments within your app. Elevate the overall user experience by paying attention to the smallest details.

4. Adaptive Layouts for Android Apps

IN CONCLUSION

Staying updated with the latest UI/UX trends is highly recommended as the technology evolves and the users needs start to show up. I encourage experimentation with new features while maintaining a focus on usability.

Our goal is to develop a user-centric mind so we're able to create apps that stand out in the competitive market.
