Background/Problem:

In 2018, over 97,000 children per year are injured in motor vehicle accidents.(Child Safety, 2020) Many times this can be prevented if the child is properly placed in the car seat. The US Department of Transportation has done a great job at providing information on their website that instructs adults on how to put their children in their car seat. However, I think that there is an opportunity to use this data to train Machine Learning Models that can then be operationalized via mobile apps to help parents when they need this information the most.

Introducing the Baby Seat Checker App

The Baby Seat Checker app will allow drivers to take a picture of their children in a car seat and get an instant review on whether their baby is properly placed in the child seat.
