32 Valuable processes to know during each phase of the double diamond

What to actually do during the discovery, defining, developing and delivering phases.

The double diamond is one of the most established processes in UX. However in 2021, the Design Council introduced an updated version that aimed to meet the needs of the modern team as the double diamond model was over 20 years old. The new model is called the systemic design framework.

At its heart is still the double diamond which is what this article will be focused on. This is a process you should take when design thinking — from discovery to defining to developing before finally delivering. In the new systemic design framework the phases are referred to as; explore, reframe, create, catalyse but based on the double diamond terms being more familiar, I have kept with the original terms. It essentially aims to answer are we building the right thing, and are we building the thing right.

While this model is often referenced, people rarely discuss what you should actually be doing during each phase. For example what should you do during developing, what should you do during delivering and so on.
