Member-only story
Quick brief
User flow is the step-by-step path a user takes to complete a specific task in your product — like signing up or buying a coffee. It’s tactical, focused, and lives in the designer’s toolkit.
User journey is the big-picture story of a user’s experience with your product over time — think emotions, touchpoints, and the messy reality of their life. It’s strategic, holistic, and often a team effort.
User Flow
Imagine you’re building an app for a coffee shop. A user opens it, picks a latte, adds it to their cart, pays, and gets a pickup code. That’s a user flow — a clear, linear sequence of steps to nail a goal.
What It Looks Like
User flows are visual beasts — flowcharts, diagrams, or wireframes with arrows.
Start: User opens app.
Step 1: Taps “Menu.”
Step 2: Selects “Latte.”
Step 3: Hits “Add to Cart.”
Step 4: Chooses “Pay Now.”
Step 5: Enters card details.
End: Sees pickup code.
