Why being a junior UX designer is an advantage
There is no denying that skill level and experience are major factors in career advancement. We are spoon-fed from an early age that the two go hand in hand. However, what many do not consider is that egos have the ability to affect the above statement. That is why I am here to shatter the idea that in order to have an advantage in your career you must have years of experience behind you. Rather, in actuality the opposite is true. How you may ask?
Experienced designers that have been in the field for at least a decade see each new project through a repetitive lens. Rather than looking with their eyes wide open at the excitement of a new project, I have noticed that unfortunately over time as individuals move up in the ranks of their career, their desire to think outside the box is removed and replaced with this automatic instinct to mimic the process of their most similar project.
Whereas in contrast, for Junior Designers everything is still new and exciting, making them eager and willing to think in innovative ways. In essence, Junior Designers are no different than newborn babies. Both see the world with open eyes, excited to question everything they interact with. Neither one is primed to think in a certain way, forcing each new experience to bring new insights into their toolboxes. This need to “prove” themselves in the field provides…
