I Can’t Do It…Yet

Exactly, yet. But I’ll get there, we’ll all get there! To kick things off for our first day of the UX Immersive Program we took time to acknowledge that what we were going to undertake in the next 10wks would be no easy feat.

We discussed embracing the process and loving the challenge. We heard inspirational talks from TedXers like Carol Dweck on the power of strapping on a growth mindset and focusing on effort, strategy, and perseverance.

As a class we created a social contract that would set the tone for creating a safe place for learning and failing and then learning some more. We’ll have each others backs to take risks and push one another to be the best.

As we moved into the afternoon we got into definitions of UX and some of the common job roles that practice UX. Something that I felt very connected with was the idea that ultimately UX is a relationship based field. To an outsider we may be working on products like website and apps, but ultimately it’s all about understanding the people using those products.

I’m most excited about becoming that connector, that translator, that middleman of people and ideas.

I got my growth mindset hair and my potential scarf on…let’s build that bridge to yet.
