Last month we teamed up with Token Dad to help them run their inaugural event. It was held on a Saturday afternoon in central London.

The aim of Token Dad…

To give fathers a forum to discuss the challenges they face as working parents as well as act as a platform for culture change so that more dads can take parental leave and work more flexibly.

More specifically…

Our first mission is to help Dads become more empathic and inclusive leaders through events that are built on conscious and intelligent play with their kids as well as discussion groups about the future of the workplace and challenges all parents are facing.

We had an inspiring afternoon. It was broken into two parts:

For the first part, parents were engaged in a group discussion, while kids designed apps. The kids’ brief was: Design a mobile app that helps a dad to be a better dad. They came up with some lovely ideas. Two of them, “Come Home Dad” and “Connecting w/ Kids” are pictured below.

During the second part, parents joined their kids, to help them finish off their designs and build their prototype.

Everyone had a fun afternoon. The feedback was great. It was lovely to see parents work with their children, designing and building something together. An event like this is usually for parents, or kids, but rarely both.

We think Token Dad are onto something.
