Look for key attributes of rigor when doing quick walkthroughs or longer observations.

What is it?

A quick observational feedback form that coaches can use when observing teacher instruction. It is structured in a familiar “plus/delta” format.

  • 1 page feedback form available in Google Doc format (printable or can be completed online)
  • Also available as a Google Form that can be completed online.
  • Get all the resources in the shared Google Drive folder.

When to use this?

  • Teachers have begun planning with deliberate focus on raising the level of rigor and now the focus is on implementation in instruction.
  • Coaches can recognize “small wins” — specific elements of rigor that are observed in instruction.
  • Can also be used to support peer observation and feedback (i.e. teachers giving feedback to each other).

How was this DESIGNED for ACTION?

Adult learning principles taken from The 4 Principles of Designing Actionable Professional Development.

Principle 2: Experience (including mistakes) provides the basis for the learning activities.

  • Observation is framed as feedback for learning and growth rather than evaluatory.

Principle 3: Adults are most interested in learning subjects that have immediate relevance and impact to their job or personal life.

  • Observational feedback is directly relevant to the primary work that educators do — teach!
