Digital Experience: Netflix
Netflix is an online subscription based service that allows customers to stream movies and TV shows from their computer, TV, tablet, or mobile device. There is an extensive library available to viewers, and it is beginning to change the TV landscape by producing original series that have garnered public and critical interest. Netflix allows viewers to choose which shows they want to watch, and gives them the freedom in when to watch it, all without the annoyance of commercials. The availability of streaming devices, such as chromecast, have helped push Netflix into a more preferred way to watch TV. Still, Netflix is competing with the big cable operators and providers in order to come out on top.
Digital/Physical Experience: MagicBands at Disney World
The MagicBands are a wristband with an RFID chip and a radio that connects guests into a vast network of services and products at Disney World Resort. The MagicBand serves as your admission ticket, your fastpass, your hotel key, your wallet, and much more. It allows experiences to be more personalized — cast members “magically” know your name and what table you’re sitting at in a restaurant. Visitors can also set their agenda for the park ahead of time, using the MyMagic+ app, and use the MagicBand to check in at pre-planned rides and activities. It’s meant to create a more seamless, pain-free experience for visitors, but also create more efficiency for park employees and provide valuable data on guest experiences.
Longstanding Experience: Farmer’s Market/Markets
I suppose the current farmer’s market is closer to what markets were like back in the day. Farmer’s markets today are typically set up outside at a well-known common street or area, where different farms each have their own tent to sell their produce. They often emphasize local grown, organic, and seasonal products. In recent times, they have experienced an upsurge due to the overall trend of buying local, healthier food. These markets occur on a scheduled basis, sometimes operating only during certain seasons, and are usually frequented by people from the surrounding communities. They provide a convenient location to exchange goods between farmers and consumers.
