The Problem

Unfortunately in India, local level search on Google doesn’t yield relevant and useful information.
Whenever we move to a new location, we need access to basic services such as grocery store, places to eat, laundry etc. These neighborhood amenities usually aren’t pinned on Maps or listed anywhere.

Global brands like KFC are easily discoverable, but smaller and local brands find it difficult to go online. Moreover, there is no platform or user forum to do a local level quality comparison between services.

Local community events, including open for all events are never indexed online and hence discovering such events becomes a challenge locally.
Connecting with local residents without their email IDs/phone numbers is a challenge. Only common identity is the neighborhood itself. Closelook is designed to tap that identity by bringing all of them to a common platform.

The Design

We decided to make an app which would have community based circles, so that users can discuss about their neighborhood or find suggestions on best of amenities. Closelook is a platform for open discoverability where users can search for services, connect to local residents and can become aware of any happenings around.

Reflection

I learnt a lot from this project. From learning basic skills of UX/UI to the challenges faced in a startup, it was a an extremely life changing experience for me. I’d love to talk about it in person, more than what I can write, because if not for this project, I would have had no idea about what Interaction design is. This project laid the path for me for a transition from an architect to an interaction designer.
