Only now, 3D designers have had very few opportunities to showcase their work to the rest of the world. So far, the spectrum of 3D design has been to games, movies, VFX, simulations, and architectural visualizations. With the introduction of Metaverse, the horizons are expanding, and there’s no limit for 3D creators as everything in Metaverse would be comprised of 3D.

In the Metaverse, your user can be the 10-year-old kid from America to the 80-year-old guy from Australia. They can come from different age groups from different demographics. So if you’re a 3D designer, the exposure you’ll be getting is tremendous! Your creativity can reach many people in a fraction of the time. Now the world is your audience, and canvas is unlimited, so be as creative as possible!

The users you’ll be catering to have different demands, and you shouldn’t limit your creativity. Metaverse is a playground for 3D designers, and you should be experimental until you hit that sweet spot where you find the balance between your creativity and user demands.

Metaverse is the internet’s next big thing. What artificial intelligence (AI) was from the late-90s until the last decade, Metaverse is for the future.

3D designers can get monetary benefits from the marketplace built around the metaverse. NFT can be one of them.

3D designers have some marketplaces where they can sell their 3D assets. But their use is limited. There is always a lukewarm demand in the market for these assets.

As the Metaverse becomes mainstream, there could be a huge demand for 3D assets because everyone would want unique designs for their worlds. Users might go to the connected marketplace to buy their 3D avatars or environments that suit their taste. This marketplace can become your opportunity to make some serious money.

NFTs (Non-fungible tokens), which are trending these days, are nothing but part of these virtual marketplaces. This idea comes from the gaming industry, where players can buy weapons from the in-app market to have an edge over their opponents.

Opportunity to collaborate with brands. You can display their ads in your virtual worlds and get paid.

If you’re a 3D designer, chances are you’re about to get the exposure YouTubers or other social media influencers are getting nowadays. Many people worldwide will see your 3D art in the Metaverse. If people appreciate your 3D creation, automatically, your followers will increase. You can then collaborate with brands worldwide to do their advertisements in your virtual world. Brands are always looking for new ways to promote their products, and they know that Metaverse is the next big platform for them. You can get paid from these brands depending on the number of users/followers.

These brands can come from the fashion, automobile, entertainment, real estate, or retail industry. Zara has already introduced an AR shopping app, Audi is giving a virtual tour of their cars to their potential customers in VR, and Macy’s has already started sharing unique VR experiences. Now you can gauge the scale of this as every single brand would want to jump into Metaverse as soon as possible. By doing this, they can outperform their competitors. Being a 3D designer, you definitely would like to cash this opportunity.

Get noticed and get famous with your 3D artwork. Your market presence in the metaverse can be far more impactful than you think.

If you’re a 3D designer, you can be the next content king/queen! Because in the metaverse, all content would be in 3D. You’ve got infinite space to showcase your content to the world. Youtube, TikTok, and Instagram are for video/photo content creators. These platforms made people overnight social media stars.

If you’re a 3D designer, metaverse can give you the same publicity. If you make your 3D craft that many users can appreciate, then becoming famous is a piece of cake for you! Your market presence would automatically increase, and you can charge on your terms to make 3D assets from your users/brands. Amrit Pal Singh, who became famous for his 3D toy faces in the middle of the Pandemic, is a live example of this. He became popular in the art community because he was a first-mover in NFTs. Not to mention that the quality of his work is at par, and he also did his marketing well. You never know that Metaverse can do the same magic for you as NFTs did with Amrit.

Knowledge of making 3D assets will be a new baseline for experience designers when the metaverse hits the market. Take the first-mover advantage!

If you’re a user experience designer who designs mobile and web screens and thinks this could solve new-age problems, think twice before creating your next screen. Orthodox softwares are insufficient to tackle problems in the future. 3D space could be your next canvas; you should have those skills to cater to your next set of users.

So better if you learn 3D softwares like Blender, 3ds max, Maya, and Cinema4D. Also, get knowledge of at least one game engine like Unity or Unreal if you’re a UX designer. There are a lot of skills you can learn in 3D designing, like modeling (character or environment), texturing, rigging, animation, or lighting & rendering.

Get your hands dirty and figure out where you want to start. Mastering each segment will take some time. So, the sooner you learn these skills, the better you can have control over your next 3D experience in Metaverse. Making 3D assets for Metaverse is very similar to making assets for games. You should optimize your 3D assets because it usually gets rendered in real-time. One should use as few polygons as possible, and textures should be as minimum as possible to achieve the performance. Designers coming from the film or architectural industry should adopt these techniques. So, don’t be behind and learn these skills as fast as possible. Take the first-mover advantage in this fast-paced market while other designers will start learning these skills after the Metaverse become mainstream. And remember, knowledge of 3D packages would be the bare minimum requirement for UX designers in the future.

Overall, more work will be generated for 3D designers in the market than in the past.

As mentioned earlier, Metaverse can completely change the scenario of the 3D industry, where the demand can skyrocket! Because every individual would want to have their own unique 3D metaverse world, which requires a lot of 3D artwork. Every brand in the world would like to have its presence in the Metaverse. Every single startup and MNC will need a 3D designer in their company.

There would be plenty of jobs available in the market in the future. So if you’re a 3D designer (whether a character or environment designer), there would be an exponential demand for you in the job market. So polish your 3D skills and be ready to ride this wave. If the job is not your cup of tea, you could do a full-time freelance via platforms like Upwork.

As mentioned earlier, the Metaverse is the platform for new-age social media. Instead of scrolling on mobile and checking out photos or videos, people would explore 3D spaces to check out different content in Metaverse. So if you’re a 3D designer, you might want to check out what creations other designers have done so far. There are many specialist 3D designers like character designers, humanoid designers, car designers, and environment designers. You never know; you can get inspiration from others and find your specialization. You might also create a unique 3D world for your users that can have a lot of buzz in the market after getting real inspiration. Or you can also collaborate with other 3D designers and develop extraordinary virtual worlds.

3D designers might make more money than they used to make with traditional freelancing, so it’s interesting to investigate the numerous new job titles in the future. There will be lots of full-time and part-time jobs available. Rather than eliminating other positions, the metaverse will create many new ones, making it a fascinating sector to keep an eye on for your next job.
