IBM Cloud utilizes the most innovative and modern technology, and I’m proud to share that our product design has also been recognized for these qualities.

I am thrilled to not only share that IBM Cloud Experimental has won the Red Dot Design Concept award in the Interface & User Experience category, but to share a glimpse into the future of IBM Cloud. While IBM is no stranger to Red Dot awards, this is the first Design Concept award that IBM has received from Red Dot — a recognition of the talent and skill of our design team and of our many partners and stakeholders.

About IBM Cloud Experimental

Creating and managing cloud resources can be complex. Crafting a solution to meet security, compliance, and configuration standards can take days or weeks and involve highly complicated processes. What if the process was simplified and shortened? What would it look like?
What is the next generation of Cloud?

IBM Cloud Experimental is a user interface aimed to solve the complexities of cloud. It pushes the boundary of modern design — using motion, visual cues, components and typography to delight our users and guide them with ease.

IBM Cloud Experimental is challenging the industry standard of productive interfaces by enhancing the Cloud experience with moments of delight through expressive and productive features.

Validated by our users

When shared with our users in a comparative research study, the results were undeniable. Participants unanimously rated IBM Cloud Experimental as more trustworthy, modern, approachable, professional, and impressive than its predecessor.

“The old design felt like a knowledge repository; the IBM Cloud Experimental design felt like a tool.”

-User quote

The IBM Cloud for VMware team recreated their product experience with the experimental guidance and conducted pre-release user testing. They saw an increase in user creation and adoption by 700% and their usability score improved from a B to an A grade. Quick to learn from VMware’s success, IBM Cloud plans to release at least five more services in IBM Cloud Experimental in 2023.

This component allows users to tackle intricate creation flows in manageable pieces, while still giving a sense of progress with fluidity.

Built with the community

IBM Cloud Experimental is the result of the collaboration of several product and internal teams within IBM Cloud to diverge, iterate, and converge — testing and validating the new user interface within different products. The insights collected throughout the iterative process led to enhancements for IBM Cloud Experimental.

IBM Cloud Experimental sparked a revolution within Cloud. Cross-collaboration between teams on Cloud Platform brought forth innovative ideas to solve today’s issues with future-facing designs. We invited IBMers to bring their knowledge, thoughts, ideas, and opinions and they responded by creating an excellent and modern experience that truly benefits our customers.

It means so much to be recognized by Red Dot alongside so many esteemed organizations — it’s not just an accomplishment for our team, but validation that the designs we have been working on represent the innovative technology of IBM Cloud to our users. It’s the culmination of years of effort from roles across IBM, from design, development and project management. We are so excited to bring the very best to our users.
