The IBM Cloud, Data and AI design team is excited to announce that IBM Cognos Analytics has been named a winner in the 2019 BIG Business Innovation Award. This is thrilling news for our team as IBM Cognos Analytics is one of our most multifaceted products, with many designers and teams working on all aspects it. We are honored to have this award showcase this project, and the hard work our team has done on it.

What is IBM Cognos Analytics?

IBM Cognos Analytics is an AI-powered data exploration and presentation tool that enhances the workflow of business users. The tool includes the ability to create compelling visualizations and dashboards, make AI-powered decisions for data analysis, and scale the data analytics process at the level that a business demands.

IBM Cognos includes an AI assistant (left), and a Detail Panel (right), to help interpret the chart being viewed. The Assistant supports natural language exploration, while the Detail Panel provides additional system-generated plain-language information to augment the chart.
Explore reduces the guesswork associated with data exploration by surfacing the strongest relationships in your data, which is displayed in the network chart, and offering suggested starting points for more data exploration, which are shown in the thumbnails.

The AI-powered toolset in IBM Cognos Analytics enhances users’ ability to get the best possible insights from their data. The toolset includes innovations like a natural language based virtual assistant, as well as a data exploration tool that finds relationships within data and suggests data visualizations. These powerful data tools allow business users to get more information from their data and easily pinpoint deeper, underlying trends that may otherwise require a higher level data expert to decipher.

Storytelling features in IBM Cognos Analytics offer the ability to visualize and display data with detailed and engaging visuals.

The presentation tools in IBM Cognos Analytics offer complex and visually engaging data visualizations, allowing users to communicate the ideas behind their data in innovative and compelling ways. The software includes tools to create detailed charts and graphs as well as motion graphics, helping to add a narrative element to the way the data is displayed. These unique experiences allow the user to communicate their insights in a more creative way, reduce user interpretation errors, and display the story behind their data rather than just sharing surface level information.

“IBM Cognos Analytics was always a great reporting and dashboarding tool. What made the most recent release such a leap forward was the introduction of predictive analytics, AI and a whole new way of exploring data and discovering patterns and relationships the users didn’t know existed. What I like about it is that Cognos does so much of the heavy lifting when it comes to analytics and leap-frogs you to the answers you need most.” — Anne Stevens, Design Lead
