We’re a team of user experience, visual, multimedia, and communications and content designers, user researchers, design strategists, and agile coaches who strive to help improve the day-to-day lives of IBMers through design.

As we reflect on 2019 and look forward to the year ahead, we’re excited to share that our work in IBM’s CIO Design earned three big external recognitions for IBM this year.

Most Customer-Centric Organization | Usabilla

In September, our team earned a Most Customer-Centric Organization award from leading metrics-collection company Usabilla. Judges evaluated applicants on four main criteria: overall story, organizational reach, effort, and the customer — which, in CIO Design’s case, means IBMers.

The award recognized IBM for an innovative CIO Design program that takes user feedback on top employee-facing applications and transforms it into relevant, trustworthy usability solutions.

Named the Voice of the Employee (VotE), the program provides executives and project teams with continuous data to help identify users’ biggest pain points within internal apps.

More on the award-winning solution, from Usabilla:

UX metrics, like NPS, overall satisfaction, ease of use and task completion rate, allow IBM to monitor user sentiment, identify efforts to prioritize and track what’s preventing users from completing tasks.

CIO Design Vice President Kristin Wisnewski accepted the award on IBM’s behalf at the global Usabilla Exchange in Amsterdam. She was joined by Vera Ujkic, Lauren Lyn, and Claude Elie (pictured accepting the honor above), who worked — along with many others in CIO Design — to implement the VotE program.

IT Team of the Year | Women in IT Awards

Wisnewski and her team also received accolades in March at the 2019 Women in IT Awards, where CIO Design won 2019 IT Team of the Year for designing employee experiences in applications, communications, physical workspaces, and more.

Each year, the award honors a woman-led IT team that has delivered measurable value to its company. Judges looked at CIO Design’s projects and achievements, leadership, ROI generated, and alignment to business goals to make their decision.

(Fun fact: As part of the Women in IT Awards and Summit, Wisnewski and a few CIO Design teammates rang the opening bell at Nasdaq.)

IDG | Ones to Watch

Also in March 2019, technology media, research, and insights company IDG honored Wisnewski for her leadership of IBM’s CIO Design team at its AGENDA19 conference.

Wisnewski made IDG’s 2019 “Ones To Watch” list, which honors rising stars in the infotech industry. The CIO Design vice president was one of 50 honorees — selected based on their accomplishments by executives from leading organizations.
