Preparation often makes for a smoother, quicker ERP implementation. From your server to your hardware and operating systems, Exceptional Software Solutions LLC’s implementation expert, Nick Danza, shares 6 things that you can do to prepare today for your Exact Macola ERP implementation.
1. Get more memory.
Memory and disk space are inexpensive. Purchase as much as you can possibly afford for a new server, or expand your current server to as much as it can handle.
2. Update your operating system.
Your operating system does not have to be the latest and greatest from Microsoft, but at the minimum, you should be running Windows 2008R2 and SQL Server 2008R2. Make sure all the updates and patches are applied.
3. Evaluate your hardware.
Faster drives mean better response. All network cards should be gigabit capable. Better yet — two network cards teamed together and installed on the server will give even greater throughput.
4. Don’t overload your server’s capabilities.
Too many applications on the server will degrade its performance, especially if one of those applications is your ERP. Remove any unnecessary applications.
5. Schedule timely backups.
This is the most overlooked issue we see today. Scheduling a complete nightly backup of your data is the one of the most important things that you can do. Gain a clear understanding of what is being backed up, how often it’s being backed up and how get your information back in case of a failure.
6. Make sure your IT department understands the impact of running ERP.
Implementing an ERP system is not like a file storage or print server project that an IT department might normally deal with. Therefore, it’s important that staff members who will be involved with the implementation are fully aware of the capabilities of the system, and the steps that are necessary to get there.
