A Metaphor About Product / Features and A Suitable Market to Fit In

Creating a new product, or simply a new feature, requires focusing on a market that it may fit in, and that’s the fundamental step one. Imaging you were eyeing on a good pair of sneakers and went to a shoe store to find that pair you wanted, unfortunately your US9 feet didn’t fit in US7 shoes they had in stock — and that was the largest sizes they had. Even though the pairs were super dopey, super fire and super nice to look on feet, you couldn’t just grad that US7 pair and go, because it didn’t fit you. What you may do is to continuing to looking for other shoe store that possibly have your size, or even checking online store or platform. You can also wait patiently a little bit longer, till your size back to stock again. However it’s quite absurd to think that in order to get the pair, you will force yourself to fit in, or even cutting your heel to fit it, it just doesn’t work. It brings no joy to you, and damages the shoes as well.

Let’s think of your feet size as the nature of your product or feature, and the shoe available in the store is the potential market you wanna put your product into: they have to be matched.

Sometimes an idea of product or feature is not enough, we gotta think what market they might fit in, and in what way they can product value for users in that market. If they don’t match, keep looking for a better market, don’t just settle down in what we have so far.
