Hello! Welcome to the very first issue of Design Reading. First, I will give you some background information, if you don’t like to read much you can skip to the juicy parts.

I started to design for digital screens approximately 20 years ago, still working as a designer, consultant and lecturer. In 20 years, I designed for many sectors (telecom, finance, health, aviation, entertainment, fmcg, news, etc.), for many scales (from startups to global enterprises). I co-founded an award winning strategic design agency. At the moment, I am working as freelance UX consultant, keynote speaker and lecturer. Living in Istanbul with my lovely wife and two kids.

I will try to keep Design Reading in weekly basis. It will focus mostly on UX Design, Service Design, Product Design, Design Thinking, Design Strategy and so on. It doesn’t have any purpose in particular, just I want to share my passion and maybe socialise with some colleagues.

Sorry in advance for my English, It is not my native language.

Org Design for Design Orgs

Please note that, this is not a review or reccomendation (to be honest I didn’t read it yet), but it’s an announcement. I am pretty excited about this book, because I think this is a long time needed book. Written by Peter Merholz and Kristin Skinner.

This practical guide provides guidelines for creating and leading design teams within your organization, and explores ways to use design as part of broader strategic planning.

What makes a great UX practitioner? Hint: It’s not what you think

Great article written by David Travis — It might be very useful for new UX practitioners.

Technical expertise is a small component in making user experience happen. Technical expertise is what gets you in the door, but it’s not what makes a great practitioner.
