Grid Systems in Graphic Design: A Visual Communication Manual for Graphic Designers, Typographers and Three Dimensional Designers by Josef Mülller-Brockmann

A reference for grids in your graphic design

Review

Following the principles of Swiss Design, this guide helps gain a sense of space using grids. The beyond guides and concrete examples, the book also offers an interesting concept: the use of grids in three-dimensional spaces.

Inspired Applications

In an electronic poppable book I’ve built, I’ve used vellum paper inserted in a card cut-out to overlay an electric circuit of geometric patterns. Grids were an essential part of the design, as I needed to cover different areas on pages, while giving the project a uniform look.
