Art, Graphic design and Communication (technical) all three are means of communication but with different purpose, thought process and interpretations.

An artwork generally does not have any purpose other than expressing your thoughts or emotions to the viewers. It a natural talent a person can have. An artist has the liberty to express his/her opinions or views on any topic(s) of his choice. It does not solve or emphasise on a single issue or message, that is why many different interpretations can be made out of them. They do not follow a particular procedure to work and generally does not have any deadlines.

In Graphic design, the designer focuses on a particular information or message that has to be conveyed to the people. Graphic designing is a skill which can be learned by anyone who have some interest in it. He/she can use his skills to work on the design aspect but cannot include his/her own views about the message that is to be delivered. Also, as the message is fixed, the interpretation cannot be many; it is understood. As they have a set amount of time, they follow some procedure and schedule their working so they can work in a the given time.

In Communication (technical), the main purpose is to spread information and knowledge about scientific, engineering, or other technical topics or themes. The information may or may not contain the opinions of the writer. They follow a set of methods to research, document, and present technical processes or products. The information can be in forms like a paper documents, web pages, computer-based training, digitally stored text, audio, video, and other media.
