Design Terminal’s accelerator program has just started the second semester in 2016. The program operates on a no-equity basis, some teams are even provided with a scholarship, and all businesses can take part in a trade show or conference abroad. The participants will profit from cross-track courses and peer-to-peer learning opportunities in collaboration with CityLab and DesignLab mentors and teams. By the end of the four-month program, the companies are ready to enter the international markets and are prepared to receive either local or foreign investment.

In TechLab, there are 5 promising and enthusiastic teams that are using technology to solve current problems. Two teams moved to Budapest from Italy and Chile respectively. Amongst the chosen companies, there are innovations aimed at health, sharing economy, hardware, tourism and helping the less fortunate.

EVA

EVA is a voice controlled eyewear for the visually impaired. EVA’s Artificial Intelligence recognises objects, texts, and signs and verbally describes what it sees.

EVA eases and improves even the most ordinary acts, such as walking, reading, and recognising objects (banknotes for example), as well as aiding social interactions. EVA helps orientation, it can also remember routes. It even helps to write emails; not only does it read the text out loud for its user, but it can also send a reply.

mEdison

The health-technology startup thrives to solve one of the most important questions of healthcare: it offers advice to patients in the form of a medical second opinion. Their target group is people with average salaries who would like to know more about their own health status and eventually, about cure options. The service of mEdison offers a solution at a price available to most of the population.

Gyermek SOS

The aim of the website is to help parents finding emergency and non-emergency child care facilities and professionals in an easy & fast way. Besides providing contact information, it is a useful guide regarding what to do in these situations. At the moment, it is the child health care system of Budapest and Pest county that is updated regularly but the plan is to expand the service nation wide. Franciska Németh was inspired by her experiences while working as a nurse.

Unlock Spaces

Unlock Spaces is the AirBnb of office spaces. They help people rent unused office space by the hour, 24/7, on demand. They are transforming the fixed & traditional real-estate business into an instant-access service.

They offer a solution to the problem of massive unused office space capacity, and a high demand for office space or a conference room for only a couple of days or even for a couple of hours. The team has recently completed the Startup Chile international program, which is a business development project supported by the Chilean government. Their target groups are small businesses, consultants and freelancers, as well as corporations that seek to pay less and get more for the space they use. For established cowork spaces and companies or buildings that function as such, they developed a Saas, white-label solution as well.

Openmondo

Only locals can really know their own city, they are the most suitable when it comes to promoting it from the most interesting aspect.

Inhabitants can become local experts by setting up an Openmondo webpage, where they can upload unique touristic content. Creating a webpage is so easy, that no prior tech or design knowledge is necessary. By joining the Openmondo community, they receive support, useful tips & case studies to help them set up their page in the most efficient way possible. Besides, it provides the opportunity for generating income by inviting local enterprises to participate.
