A little Apartment in Rome

The 1st of March I went to The Museu Coleção Berardo with my boyfriend who came visit.

There was an area of the museum dedicated to modern art exhibition and I got caught by the piece below.

It is a visual description an apartment in Rome owned by an Italian artist; when I first saw it I felt like a warm feeling of home, a feeling similar to when you smell a familiar perfume, maybe your blankets cotton softener or your favourite croissant fragrance.

I had that feeling because I visited Rome for New Year’s Eve and I spend some amazing days with my boyfriend and my friends there, who I rarely have the chance to see.

This artwork had a strong evocative effect, giving me a very present sensation of a past event, which actually surprised me a lot. I think we have emotional memory of feelings that we are only able to access if we are subjected to a “stimulus”,not accessible rationally.

I loved the fact that the artist documented all his/her reasoning as we all would do: taking pictures and commenting aside. I found this technique very effective and easy to get in contact with, not obscure or too elaborate but instead accessible and familiar.

I felt like the artist was trying to visualise his/her project in order to get a better understanding of it. It kind of reminded me of what we are doing in class writing ideas down.
