An application that fights against food waste

Too Good To go is an initiative that aims to combat food waste, one of the primary causes of global warming, “Reducing food waste is one of the most important things we can do to reverse global warming” (Frischmann, s.d.)

I became aware of this application, which can now be downloaded on all devices, a few years ago thanks to word of mouth.

The application is in fact expanding all over the world, trying to include as many people as possible in their project, the government, schools, and companies: “Only when we join forces to fight waste together will we be able to generate positive change. That is why we have decided to focus on four pillars, the foundations of our fight: people, companies, schools, politics. In these four areas we have set concrete goals to be achieved” (Too Good To Go, s.d.).

I was very inspired by this project because I use it when I come back to Italy and therefore, I found it very useful both for the customer who can buy good food with little money and for the bar or supermarket who can reduce waste.

What is interesting is that the application provides all the data for food waste to make people aware of the very high numbers that are being recorded. By now, the world’s waste consists of 44% food waste and green waste with a total of 2.5 billion tonnes of food wasted per year.

The Too Good To Go application, to combat food waste, thanks to the involvement of bars, restaurants, supermarkets and other similar entities, has made available the possibility for customers to buy mystery boxes in which leftover food is put at very convenient prices in order to encourage purchase and avoid food waste.
