Food waste, alongside with climate change, pollution and many others, has become a worldwide issue. Catastrophically, every year, more than a third of the food produced around the globe is wasted, and it is estimated to be contributing to 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Let me introduce you to the “Too-good-to-go” app, a company with a social impact that comes at the right time with an innovative idea capable of revolutionizing the fight against food waste.

The free app Too-good-to-go, which was founded in 2015 in Denmark, has the purpose to connect local restaurants or any food stores that have unsold products to consumers. In addition to being planet-friendly, the baskets are a surprise for the user and are offered at a great price. Indeed, the food on the app is sold at one-third its original price. So far, the app has helped save 117 million meals worldwide, making 51.8 million users happy with both their good deed and the concept. In addition, the company has grown to 1280 employees across 17 countries, the latter called “waste warriors”

Too-good-to-go’s mission rests on the belief that we’ll only be able to generate a positive change in society when we all come together to fight food waste. I personally feel the same way, and in fact downloaded the app as soon as I heard about its existence in 2017. In my opinion, this social innovation comes at the right moment, it not only has made me benefit from cheaper and good quality food, but it has definitely contributed to my growing awareness regarding food waste. Moreover, the app is so easily-accessible that food store or restaurant has no excuse anymore to throw away the remaining food.

In conclusion, I thank the founders of this application who managed to figure out an idea that benefits every part of the picture, all with the ultimate goal of having a positive impact on the planet and our resilience to climate change, with a focus on fighting food waste.
