I want to talk about a movie called Ladri di biciclette, which was created in Italy after World War II. The narrative structure of this movie is very simple, it’s about a father who is forced to steal other people’s bikes after his bike is stolen. In today’s eyes, this movie is very ordinary and even a bit boring. However, in the historical context of the time, it helped to progress society in a creative way, which is why I chose it. At that time, the life of the Italian people was very miserable due to the effects of the post-war period. The government wanted to cheer people up, so they wanted the media to put out encouraging messages to help people. However, the director of the period chose to tell the story of the poor and the working class, and used non-professional actors to criticize the economy and the morality of the people of Italy after World War II. This movie really managed to address issues in a different way than the mainstream, so I think it was creative. The people at the bottom were able to really empathize with the characters when they saw the film, and the film artist not only recorded reality, but also dialogued with and intervened in it. This method of narration was later called Neorealismo, and this movie is a masterpiece of it. Creativity for me is about helping people to have a better experience in a different way than the mainstream, and this movie makes people think and gives them a real insight into the lives of the people at the bottom of the Italian ladder. For the Italian people at the time, encouragement from the government was useless to them, and this movie was a symbol of what the lives of every Italian underclass were like, and it made the world aware of them and helped them.
