I found an Airbnb I visited during winter break creative. The house called ‘Ex of In House’ was designed by architect Steven Holl, located in Rhinebeck, NY. The house has a round roof with several glass half domes. The inner geometry is formed by spherical spaces intersecting with wood trapezoids. The glass ceiling allows more natural light to come in, making the inner space brighter no matter the weather, which is creative. The inner of the house is a fully opened space without doors, which means you can see the whole house wherever you stand. In addition, unlike traditional houses, this Airbnb is heated geothermal and uses solar energy that allows the house to be energy independent. The materials used to build this house, such as glass and wood, are locally sourced. What I found most creative is how the spherical spaces intersect perfectly with the cubic spaces. If the cube and sphere do not precisely match, sunlight will be hard to come into the house. The process of crafting the raw materials to make such a wonderful space require creativity. The architect’s attitude toward light makes this house creative. The phenomena that arise in the space within a house, the sunlight that enters the room through the windows, and the colors and reflections of the wall and floor materials are all inextricably linked, which cannot be achieved without creativity.
