I have been to the Astra Lumina event at Queens Botanical Garden, an immersive experience titled “An Enchanted Night Walk Amongst the Stars.” This event, part of the Lumina Enchanted Night Walk series, transforms the garden into a celestial pathway filled with light, projections, and sound, inviting visitors to connect with the stars above.

My fascination with immersive environments and their power to deepen our connection to the cosmos motivated my choice. Astra Lumina represents an innovative intersection of nature and technology, offering a reflective journey through the wonders of the night sky amidst the urban oasis of Flushing, Queens.

The experience skillfully utilized lighting and sound to blur the boundaries between earth and the cosmos, creating a narrative that engaged visitors in a cosmic dance. Luminous orbs symbolizing stars that “regenerate, rise, and reunite in the night sky” encouraged personal reflection on our place in the universe.

Astra Lumina highlights the essence of design thinking — creating empathetic, innovative solutions that resonate emotionally with participants. It underscored the importance of designing experiences that bridge humanity with the broader universe, inspiring me to explore how immersive design can enhance projects aiming to connect individuals with the natural world.

Astra Lumina was not just an event; it was a profound exploration of our relationship with the cosmos, demonstrating the transformative power of design thinking in crafting experiences that inspire and connect.
