Tip #9 : Design is about integrating uses, not just adding functions that do not correspond to tasks.

« The new technical stack is so cool, we must integrate it! » « Everybody wants AI; we must put it in our app! » « Animations on screen are so gorgeous, users love that! »

Okay! Technicians love technology. We don’t blame them. But the fact is that we must understand if the users of our product love technology as much as we do, even a little, or if they are focused on usage… on their goals using our product… on what they do and achieve with it… and how easy, comfortable, convenient, intuitive, repeatable, accessible, affordable, and so on, they get results with our product.

If users love technology for technology’s sake, great! Let’s enjoy giving them plenty of it.
If they want to achieve usage goals, great! Let’s give them what they want, and if necessary, let’s integrate technologies that facilitates their goal achievement.
But never lose sight of what they want from using our product.

AI for the sake of AI in an app can just be a waste of time of integration as much as putting touch screen on a toster.
