User Centered Design: The true answer

Tip #4 : The real individual’s answer is his own answer. Not the one we have suggested.

Naturally, when you put it like that, it sounds obvious. But the line between no influence and influence is in fact quite tiny. Here the drawing shows someone proposing solutions to his/her question. And the guy who wasn’t thinking about the help system, suddenly think about it. What’s the value of an experience feedback that wasn’t there a the first place? What we can say is that at least it’s probably of little importance for him/her.

We’ve probably all had the experience of having to answered a question with suggested answers, and then to not finding what we’d really like to answer… and finally choosing the least worst. Here again, what is such an answer worth to the interviewer?

Yes, open-end questions are more cumbersome to manage, but the result is far-far-far more valuable than influenced answers.
