With Women’s History Month coming to an end, these graphic designers remind us that women’s (and every minority’s) voices should be echoed throughout time and across all borders.
The world is changing its views on women’s rights and it’s been doing so for decades, even centuries. Unfortunately, however, the changes that often enough are so desperately needed sometimes take a disgracefully long time to come about to replace outdated social norms with more progressive and tolerant community standards.
There are still a great number of social and political issues we, as people, cannot agree upon, so many voices that still go unheard, muted by the overwhelming buzz of the archaic “traditional values.”
The contemporary posters in this article are intended to change our view of the world, exposing the struggles of women and other minorities in our societies, and help improve our interactions with one another as human beings of equal rights.
The posters’ clear and compelling statements disseminate the message of change, exploding in front of their viewers’ eyes like an informational and an emotional grenade, urging them to see the world as it is, and at the same time persuading them to imagine it as it could be — a place of tolerance, equality and love.
Olga is an exhibition curator and graphic designer residing in Los Angeles, California. Having a passion for the graphic arts, Olga Severina founded PosterTerritory initiative that became a launching platform for contemporary art shows and poster exhibitions in the US and abroad. Under its umbrella, she curated graphic art campaigns, which tackled a variety of social issues and featured artworks by some of the biggest names in the international design community.
