Important Quotes and Things to Note:

“Based on the tenets of good design and lasting craftsmanship”

“In an era when cheaply constructed products are proliferating, their ‘highly considered, zero-compromise’ pieces are produced start to finish in the USA”

“gathered a core group of fabricators located in various cities across the country that are able to produce furniture to their specifications — no small feat”

“When you know where objects come from and how they’re made, they have more meaning, and you hold on to them longer,” — Michaele Simmering

“They’ve grown into the story of you life.” — Michaele Simmering

Thoughts and Questions:

  • The definition of quality must include the materials that are used to make a piece — are they sustainable? Are they good for the health of the user as well as the environment? Will they last long enough or wear out quickly?
  • Some artisans do use tools such as the CNC machine and still consider their pieces highly crafted quality goods
  • Quality craft encompasses ethics — are the materials sustainable, is something being preserved (such as the American made craftsmanship) — and how do you scale this model responsibly without sacrificing quality?
  • Recurring themes are personalization and knowing how something is made means it has more meaning to the user, it can lead to sustainability because suddenly things are no longer disposable. Ethics are considered.
