…you get the next generation of service design

Since the coffee shop analogy went down so well in our video explaining service design, we’ve brought it back for a sequel. This time, the subject is Data + Design. It’s complex, tricky to explain, and utterly brilliant.

Designers and data scientists are typically quite different from each other — they have different skill sets and derive job satisfaction from different things. But when brought together to collaborate on a shared goal, they interweave their unique skills and instincts. They bounce ideas off each other and solve problems using a holistic collection of insights and information. But, most importantly, bringing the two together results in services that surprise and delight customers. These services have the intelligence and understanding to morph into whatever each customer wants or needs. Together, Data + Design can use different information to provide impactful recommendations to improve the customer’s day– and in our example, help our coffee shop continue to grow.

At Fjord, we describe these services as Living Services. And thanks to Data + Design, this is the next generation of service design.
