Abstract and Concept Note

Our project, Srishti Local Guide (SLG), is a conversational agent in the form of an app, that is aimed to provide assistance to students and faculty within the Srishti Campus who face difficulty in navigating around campus.
Through research and discussion, we all concluded that one of the problems
faced by many students is finding their classrooms and remembering where their class is. Not just students but faculty also face similar problems. The multiple staircases and sharing the campus with other students are some reasons as to why the need to locating classrooms easily was necessary.
The conversational agent we have relies on speech and text interaction ergo
providing correct and timely responses. The app activates as the user passes through a sensor installed at the entrance. Once detected, the user can interact with the app once the sensor has detected your presence, after which it can be used anytime as long as your are still within campus.
The simplicity of our app enables the user to simply ask a question and receive
immediate responses in the form of a text or visuals such as videos. Using speech simplifies the method used to interact with the app. Visual representations brings an easier way of communicating between the device and the user.
Adding video instructions of how to get to a specific class can help users reach
their desired class just by simply following it. Since our app will have access to your Blackboard it can thus help you navigate and find classes in accordance to your schedule. For example, if you were to ask it where your class was, SLG would guide you to class via a video instruction.
Depending on the duration you are in campus, SLG may notify the user about
other activities that are outside the classroom. An example of such a case would be, the app asking you if you are hungry during lunchtime.
Other features, which we haven’t shown in our video, include updating on pending assignments and reminding you if you are low on attendance. We plan to include features for faculty as well, such as knowing how many students of their class are within campus, attendance will be sorted out through the app and faculty will receive notifications if the student has not come to class, and they can also know what class they have on that day.
With the addition of few more features and further working on our idea, we are aiming to come up with a successful prototype of our app, Srishti Local Guide, which can attain to a recurring difficulty among students and faculty.
