Week 1 Reflection
In foundation year I was in a contextual class with Arvind who introduced us to R Studio and Super Collider, (along with a lot of other things in relation to computers). R was something that got me on this train to learn to code. I realized that just like Steve jobs said, coding isn’t rocket science, and everyone should understand at least the basics of coding. On the first class, we were asked the question, “must designers know to code?” I’m still not sure about the answer but whether a designer or not, I chose this class because I’m curious about all the possibilities this skill could lead to. Cygwin was a good start, something very basic and clear; I’m excited to explore Python but still feel a little nervous.
The video about Sketchpad was interesting, I never thought that such possibilities would have been in implementation way back in 1968, and the facts about the mouse pointer invented by Douglas englebert, and Xerox researcher ideas being executed in a large ways by other companies like Microsoft and Apple were eye opening.
NLP, ML, Hardware Sketching, etc are all new terms that still don’t make much sense to me, but i’m hoping it will all fall into place in the coming 4 wekks of this class.
