Julian R is the perfect brand designer for your business if you want to stand out from your competitors and he gives his best in providing purposeful designs to your brand. Apart from this, he shares some useful insights on social media also.

Q1. I always admire your branding tips, So Iā€™m very intrigue to know your beautiful journey as a brand designer.

I remember opening Photoshop for the first time when I was around 13 when my brother was using it for a school project. It was like paint but on steroids! I was hooked! Years later I was always creating random stuff in Photoshop.

After high school, I decided to pursue electrician school as I didnā€™t think there was any money to be made in ā€œartā€. So I did that for 4 years however along the way I would be doing odd jobs for local clubs and small businesses.

I found my passion and quit my well-paying job to go back to school and pursue design.

Q2: What exactly brand designers do?

To me, a brand designer is someone who helps a business bridge the gap between business products/services and their consumers.

Q3: What major difference you find while doing branding for B2B and B2C businesses?

There are many reasons that differentiate the two. Mostly the size of sales cycles. B2B requires more expertise and trust whereas B2C requires more relatability and benefits.

However, at the end of the day, you are still connecting with humans on both accounts.

Q4: Iā€™m a designer who has just started his professional journey and want to build my brand, what advice you want to give?

Be authentic. Experiment. Donā€™t compare yourself to other people unless itā€™s for self-improvement. Provide value to your audience.

Q5:What are the things we need to scrutinize before doing rebranding?

Having a strong business model is important before considering branding

Q6: What qualities youā€™re looking for in a brand designer while hiring them for your company?

Organized, great communication has a strong design foundation, self-aware, and able to take constructive criticism/wanting to learn.

Q7: As a freelancer, we feel shy when it comes to asking for more than what is being offered. So how to set a price bar and negotiate when working as a freelance designer?

Iā€™ve struggled with this for a while. Itā€™s important to believe in your price and your worth. Confidence is key. But remember, itā€™s not about charging a ton of money. Itā€™s about being able to provide enough value that your client refers to you, or comes back for more work.

Thereā€™s nothing worse than overcharging and your client feeling screwed over.

Q8: How you choose the right color for the brand?

When choosing colors, itā€™s important to look at your competitors. Next look at the vibrancy & hue of that color. It should reflect the personality and energy level of the brand.

Color psychology is bullsh*t and should not be the reason you pick a color. Purple does not = wisdom etc šŸ˜‚
